How a 1940 stone town house in the heart of Cómpeta became the place we ended up calling home — and the place you keep coming back to.
Bar owners turned chambre d'hôte hosts. Casa Jardín opened in June 2024.
Birmingham born and bred, Anthony and Ian came to Cómpeta after running a bar in the city and then four years of a five-bedroom chambre d'hôte in the medieval village of Caunes-Minervois, in southern France. After forty viewings across Andalucía, Casa Jardín won them over — and opened its doors in June 2024.
The five-floor wreck they bought has been reformed slowly: local stone, encaustic floor tiles, beautiful fittings, a rooftop bar with 360-degree views, and the salt-water pool added last. The renovation was followed by Channel 4's A New Life in the Sun.
They run the house in person — answering every email, refilling the honesty bar, walking guests through on arrival. Many leave as friends. Many come back the same week the next year.

One of us will meet you on arrival, walk you through the house, and probably stay for a glass too long. We do breakfast every morning, refill the honesty bar in the late afternoon, and answer every email that comes in. We don't have a reception desk because we don't think we need one. If you can't find us, we're usually nearby.
